The news that Google I/O offers annually allows developers to learn trends and detect opportunities in the mobile applications market. Although Android is close to become the most popular operating system, it continues amazing everyone.

In this year edition of this highly expected event, it was announced the integration of a new programming language in Android App development: Kotlin.

Kotlin was launched by JetBrains in 2011, and in 2012 the project became open source. The announcement of its integration with Android OS opens up many opportunities for developers who are familiar with this language and it is also an interesting challenge for JetBrains, because millions of people will focus on it.

As a Professional Android Developer you will probably be interested on learning this programming language. One of its best features is that you will not have to start from scratch, according to the official JetBrains statement: “Kotlin is easy to get started with and can be gradually introduced into existing projects”.

How to start with the new language in Android, Kotlin?

It is important to know that in order to work with Kotlin you must download the latest version of Android Studio, which is currently in beta (we warn you in case you could find any bug).

One of the main features of Kotlin is the simplification in its lines of code, if you have a solid base in Java it could be very easy to learn it.

Search for communities that help you solve doubts, Kotlin became news thanks to the recent announcement of its integration to Android, although this language have existed for over six years now. You’ll sure find a lot of valuable information in forums and blogs.
